  1. Thank you so much for your questionaire Such an honor and will try and reply as truthfully as possible.

When did you first discover that art would be an important part of your adult life?

My life had taken a huge turn 1998, my second divorce was forced on me which left me in an emotional mess. I was lucky enough to meet a kind gentleman called Mr Bruce Laywood at work.
We dated for about 12 months. Bruce is an artist and I loved setting up his paints and easel and watching him draw and paint.
As a young girl I loved drawing and won a little class competition in infant school and one of my drawing was left on the school corridor wall until my children went to the same school.
I never once thought art was for me in my adult life. Bruce showed me it was and began to learn.

How has creating art shaped you professionally and personally?

There was a person inside that I never really knew. Developing my art as helped me to understand myself and what I want in life.
The art I create helps me to feel content, it accepts me and always gives me the love in thousand fold. Art developes also through the people who collect and buy my art. Their love and excitement helps me to keep developing.
Each creation has so many thoughts and feeling from others aswell as myself.
Where art seemed personal it actually made me aware of the world and people around me.

What are your artistic influences? Has anyone inspired you?

While in art college studying Illustration 1999-2001 I found love for so many era's of art and artists.
Right from Renaissance to today. Some of the biggest loves for Picasso, MiRo and Mackitosh.
Even though I learned how to paint in college I didn't develope my own style until many years later.
I became ill with a damaged left muscle and jaw joint rendering me to resting in pain.
I had not painted for over a year. Searching through Ebay for paintings to fill my art deprived soul I came across the most compelling art I had ever set eyes upon. The artist is Jane DesRosier. I cannot explain it better than, when I saw Jane's angels I saw me. She was painting my face. In my obsession I managed to upset her and can only follow and love her art in the background. This led me to search on Youtube for other artists to be inspired by.
Here I found Suzi Blu, a fabulous creative artist who is captiviating, not jsut for her art but for her video's. She shares her daily life. I joined Suzi's art class and here I learned to create petite doll art.
The two styles together have slowly emerged into
one unique style. These two artists helped me develope from deep within my psychie.

How long have you been a working artist?
    Since 1998

    What is your artistic process?
The process is painting from dark to light.
I love paitning of a textured background which is glued craft tissue paper, lightly sanded then apply gesso. Paint black.
Paint with acrylic paints, some embellishments and mixed media. Always leaving a little of the black showing through as outlines.

Where can we see more of your art?

If you look down the right hand side of my blog there are links to my Flickr account.
I have only found storing images on the net and keeping blogs in the last year or so.

Are you represented by a gallery?

Cristus Art gallery in Sangate have quite a significant collection of my art.

What trends do you see in the 'art world'?

USA folk, mixed media, recycling and upcycling art to me the new leading front. Scultpures using object and images around us today and from the past. Spiritual development through art.

  2. Any tips for emerging artists?

Get yourself a blog, share your art and life.
There are more people who love art in the new world of blogging than can meet in art galleries. Although they have there important place, these art galleries will sometime leave you feeling used and isolated.
You will meet more like minded and active artist friends while sharing your blog and will grow and develope so much more.

What was the toughest point in your career as an artist? Have you ever hit rock-bottom?

When my art was questioned as original while being inspired by Jane DesRosier.

With each sad setback I have gained and grown more in my own style.
I would say the most upsetting times have been my biggest friend.
    You also find your friends.

What can you tell about the art scene in your area?

I don't join in any art scene in my area at present. I would love to do this eventually and is one of my future ambitions.
My art circle is through blogging.

Has your work ever been censored? If so, how did you deal with it?

No, I create pure art to share wholesomeness. I believe we effect people lives and should develope in a good way, best we can.
I feel like I am a fragile innocent spirit trapped in a human body that falls to human frailties.
I understand that there are different people who share different parts of these frailities.
Not that we are wrong, that we are all fragile.

Is there anything else you would like to say about your art or the 'art world'?

Art is for everyone. We all need it at some point is our lives it can help. Either by creating it or experiencing it.

In one sentence... why do you create art?

I hardly think of anything else.

Has politics ever entered your art?

Always. I share a purer world and this questions everything we think or do.
I am constantly aware and to much sometimes of how we live our lives to the point I over complicate. Creating what I do is the answer I feel in my heart and mind after all this confusion and debating.

Does religion, faith, or the lack thereof play a part in your art?

Very much so. I am a total believer in God and the love He surrounds us with. Having some personal experiences as set my belief so strong I could not deny if I wished.

Does your cultural background play a part in your work?

I would say yes, also. I have been shown so much love and heart ache in my life. When happy I have been exstatically so.
When ever I am hurting, to be mad about it hurts me more.
So dwelling on the purity love side helps me to dwell in a happy place. I want to stay in the love side always. When I cannot in life I can always in art.
Yes my upbringing and every experience I have has moulded me into the person I am. It took my art to show me just exactly my inner weakness and strengths.

Thank you so much for this chance to share.
I am not the best at english, if I have mis-spelt or placed my puntuation etc in the wrong places. Please just laugh and enjoy.

    All the best!

    Julie
